The Math Readiness test is one factor that shows the student, parents, and teacher what the student knows, and if the student has all the necessary math knowledge needed for that math level. We recommend using this assessment as a tool for summer work, to be ready for math in the fall. The math readiness tests are not tests that can be used to "test out" of or skip a math level.
All incoming CAMS students must take a math readiness exam in the spring before we can determine your course schedule for next fall. It is strongly recommended that you study the REVIEW PACKET (with answers) for the readiness test that you plan to take. All review packets can be found on this page.
Students from A/B track at TCA who plan to attend CAMS in the fall take the math readiness test in their class on the TCA campus - not at the middle school. C track students and newly enrolled students coming to CAMS in the fall must take a readiness test on the CAMS campus. We offer several testing days during April or May. Consult the CAMS office for dates and times.
CAMS 8th graders headed to CAHS in the fall take the Math Readiness Assessment in class on campus. For more information please see the CAHS Math Readiness Page.
Math Success is the Goal!
It is crucial that students develop a strong sequential understanding of math content and math concepts as they move from grade to grade. In the event that students miss or do not have a firm grasp of the content or concepts at one math level, they are likely to struggle as they progress to the next math level. Our goal is that students thrive and succeed in each of their math courses.
At the Classical Academies, we use the integrated math approach with our math progression. Please click here to view the Math Progression paths available at CAMS.
We have an assessment for each of the math levels here at CAMS. These Assessments are checking that your student has the basic math skills necessary to be successful in the next math level. We recommend you have your student use the review packets (linked below) like a test.
We encourage eager, organized, and qualified incoming 7th-grade students to take Sigma math during their 7th-grade year. Sigma Math is Math 7 and 8 taught in one year. This sets students up to take Math I in their 8th-grade year and enter High School ready to take Math II.
Required Prerequisites include:
6th grade Spring Math Star percentile rank of 75% or higher.
Passing the Sigma Math Readiness Test by the end of their 6th grade year.
Teacher recommendation
Parent must attend mandatory Sigma parent meeting and trainings.
Review packets (with answers) for each math readiness test are posted below. It is highly recommended that all students study the appropriate review packet before taking a math readiness assessment. As an example, if you hope to take Math 8 in the fall, you should study the Math 8 Readiness Review Packet and plan to take the Math 8 Readiness Assessment.
