Hello Parents,

Welcome to the final days of October! Last week was filled with some great learning, and students enjoyed an assembly with a very adorable two-year-old pup named Elroy from Interquest Detection Canines. Tuesday (10/31) is a spirit day: "favorite fictional character"! If they dress up, please no gore, masks, or weapons of any kind.

We have our next Coffee Chat on Wednesday, November 1 from 10:30-11:15 on Zoom. Parents are invited to join an informal chat with other parents and administration. Coffee chats will have a short agenda and Q & A time. Coffee Chats are virtual and will be recorded! This month’s topic: Teaching your child healthy coping skills to manage anxiety with school counselor, Mrs. Atkins.  Zoom LINK

Lastly, have you bought tickets to see our Musical Theater “Best of Broadway” production? Our students have been working hard to create an awesome show that the whole family will enjoy! Performances are Friday, November 5 at 5:30 and 7:30pm. More information below!

In partnership,

Mrs. Morrow, Principal

Update: The campaign just hit the halfway mark, we are $317 away from hitting our goal. With your continued support, the students will receive the materials they need for this awesome project!

This project aims to get kids engaged with stories by asking the question: How is the same story different when it is offered in a different medium? The book club unit is designed to encourage critical thinking and creative exploration. - Ms. Shurance

Each week, we are recognizing students who go ABOVE and BEYOND in demonstrating one of the 8 Keys of Excellence. Students who are recognized as going above and beyond get to put a star up on our Above & Beyond wall, and get to be celebrated in front of the whole school during morning announcements. We want to develop a school culture where students are kind, determined, have a growth mindset, have integrity, help others, speak with good purpose, take ownership, make the most of opportunities, etc., so we want to celebrate students when we see them doing those things.

Selah Farr: Habit of Craftsmanship

Selah takes great care on every assignment.  Her graphs and tables are precise, images carefully drawn, and always beautiful handwriting.

- Mr. Giesing

Alexandra Contreras: Habit/Key of Ownership

Alexandra exemplifies many outstanding qualities. She is motivated, uses her time wisely, self-advocates, and takes ownership of her learning. When she is presented with a challenge, she perseveres.  She is thoughtful, approaches tasks with a positive attitude, and is an inspiration to those around her.

- Ms. Holland

Each week we will be highlighting a different class/staff member to learn more about the classes happening here at CAMS. This week, we're checking in on Mr. Baker's 1st period 7th grade History class.

Mr. Baker's 1st Period, 7th Grade History Class

In my 1st period Science class we are learning about forces in motion.

A little about Ms. Baker

I have been with CAMS for 1 Month and teach Science and Math. I like to get outdoors in my spare time.

A note from Ms. Baker...

Science and math are all around us and the better we understand these subjects we can better understand ourselves. The best thing about science is nature and how beautifully its designed.  Highlights of teaching science are our hands on experiments that get us up active and into the topics we are trying to understand.

Q & A with the students...

Emily

Korey

Vanessa

What do you like about Ms. Baker?

Emily: I like that he stretches us to our limits and helps us to expand and he teaches very well for a new Summit teacher.

Korey: He is super knowledgeable and is straightforward.

Vanessa: Mr. Baker is nice and he likes to help us, he is a good teacher he is very similar to Mrs. Steinecke she was my favorite teacher last year. She was very nice and I think he is very nice as well.

What do you like about History ?

Emily: I like that we get to make games and will get to present them, I think presenting is fun and I really like science.

Korey: I'm not very good at science but having a good science teacher like Mr. Baker helps a lot.

Vanessa: We are learning about forces, my grandpa used to talk about Newtons law and now that I am learning about it its pretty cool.

What is something that you have learned in this class?

Emily: I feel like I have learned to stretch myself more and to not be fully dependent on the teacher to remind us to do everything. Mr. Baker teaches us that  need to learn and remember what you learn as well as what is expected of us.

Korey:  I really enjoy Mr. Baker's class learning about forces.

Vanessa: The thing I have learned in this class is how newtons law applies to everything around us.

Cell Phone Policy

(click for more info)

Hello Awesome CAMS Parents!

One of the things I have most appreciated about CAMS as a parent, teacher, and administrator, is the commitment to having students engaged in class and with each other during breaks instead of their cell phones!  Yes these devices can serve as excellent vehicles  for communication and learning, however especially in the junior high setting, they often prove far more distracting and problematic on many levels.

As we enter our second unit, we are tightening our enforcement and appreciate your partnership in this process.  The expectation for students is:

If you need to get in touch with your student, please call our front office at 760-520-6800.  We are very happy to deliver a message, have them come to the office to talk, etc.

If your student does not keep to this policy we will begin the following process:

Again, thank you for your support on this important piece of our school culture of student learning, focus, safety, and engagement!

Mr. Powell

Medication Policy for 2023/2024 school year

(click for more info)

If your student will require medication at school, at any time during the year, please print the required medication form here and turn it into the front office. We are not able to administer any medication (prescription or over-the-counter), without a doctor's signature, and the medication must be in the original container. Additionally, if your student will be carrying medication, you still need to fill out the medication form, have it signed my a doctor, and your student also needs to fill out the self-carry medication form. If your student requires an EPI PEN to be used on campus the following form must be filled out and returned to campus. This will better allow us to assist your student with possible reactions and side effects of your students allergies and gives us an action plan to care for your student properly.

Please note: We cannot accept any medication form for the 2022-2023 school year if it is dated before July 1, 2023.  All forms must be signed & dated by your doctor after this date to be active for the school year.

Hello Badger Families and Happy October!

This month is very special for us at CAMS, as we are launching our annual Anti-Bullying Campaign: Unity Week!

As an organization, the Classical Academies partners with PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center to stand together against bullying and to stand for including others on our campus. PACER Center is an organization that supports children, youth and young adults with disabilities by providing support and resources to their families. PACER Center founded PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center in 2006 to support all children by their efforts to bring awareness to and prevent bullying. For more information about PACER, please see their website!

I will be in classrooms with students this month, talking about how to identify and respond to bullying, as well as how to be more inclusive to others in our CAMS community. Additionally, ASB will be launching Unity Week, October 17th-19th. We will have spirit days, lunch games and end the week with our Unity Pep Rally, where we will unite together by wearing orange, the national color for bullying prevention. We are excited to celebrate our common message, that we want to be a community of acceptance, kindness and inclusion.

See the flier for more details about what we have planned during Unity Week!

I'm launching a tutoring service aimed at offering math and science support to students who may require additional assistance, whether for grasping fundamental concepts or preparing for AP, Honors, ACT, and SAT exams. My services encompass personalized one-on-one and small group tutoring in science, chemistry, physics, and math (with a likely focus on Algebra through Calculus BC).

Please feel free to extend my contact information to anyone who may be asking about a tutor! I would be happy to find out how I can best satisfy the students’ academic needs.
