5.1- Mini Project "Changing the Visual Context through Music"
Due Wednesday (4/2) at the end of class.

"Changing the Visual Context through Music"
Just like the video above, you are going to create a short film. You will then create two different types of music to go under it to change the way the film is interpreted. You will use the same exact film footage twice. See the example above. You will need to split up the roles with someone editing film and someone making music. Once the film is edited in iMovie, you need to upload the movie into GarageBand as a file. You will then be able to see your movie as you create music to go along with it. Once your music is finished, export it and go back into iMovie and add the music permanently and export the finished product as an mp4. Do not export your full finished movie product in garage band. You definitely need to put it back into iMovie to get your finished product. The only reason to upload your video into Garage Band is to make the composition process easier.
You are working in the following partners/groups for this:
Devin & Arieana
Jonathan & Trinity
Kodie & Sydney & Kadin
Ryder & Sharidan & Talia
Will & Carter & Connor
Step One- Get with your partner, create a story board for what your video is going to be about. The video will only be 20-30 seconds. Take notes on a google doc and share that document with Ms. Schnacker on the button above "submit your google planning document here". If there will be script, keep it short and generic because it needs to be something that works with two different types of music. Get everything planned and ready to go.
All participants need to be in the video. Someone from another group will film you when you are ready.
Step Two- Decide on filming location. When you film the short clip, make sure you film in landscape and not portrait.
Step Three- Begin filming. Because we are not supposed to use phones this year, you may need to check out a couple of video cameras and cards from the library.
Step Four- One person needs to work on editing the footage and putting the video together in iMovie. The video will need to show back to back (the same exact video twice). The other person/people need to start creating background music and sound effects in GarageBand to set to the short film. Remember- you are creating two sets of music that give a different meaning or feel to the film.
First- you just need to get everything planned out and write it all down in google docs.
PROJECT REQUIREMENTS-
Find a gaming clip or series of gaming clips that total 30 seconds (you can go over a little but do not pass 1 minute). You may use screen recordings of yourself playing.
If you grab a YouTube clip, you must convert it into an Mp4 prior to using it in the editing software which means you need to e-mail Mrs. Thorpe so she can covert it for you. (Yes- you can e-mail her right now. She will send it back to you the same day.)
Once you get it into iMovie, make sure you "mute" or remove any of the music elements with it as you will be adding your own.
Plug the video into iMovie or Adobe Premiere Pro and begin editing it. Add the following elements-
Video Filters
Video Special Effects
Transitions (fade in and outs)
Export the completed video and then plug that video into Garage Band.
You can begin writing music, adding loops, and adding sound effects directly to line up with the movie file.
The music should have volume adjustments.
The music should reflect impactful moments and have an overall clear reflection of what the video game is trying to portray.
5. After you are done adding the musical background, If you want to add the sound effects in garage band, you absolutely can or you can export it from GarageBand (as an Mp4) and put it back into iMovie to do sound effects.
6. Submit when completed.
After watching the film "Score", which composer do you think you are most like?
5.6 Photoshop Green Screen Background- mini project.
Take a picture of yourself in front of the green screen.
Select a HD picture for a background that you want to put yourself in.
Upload both photos into your google drive and save to your desktop.
Use the instructions laid out in Unit 5 to replace the green screen image with the new background you selected.
Use the instructions laid out in Unit 5 to clean and soften the edges of your image and remove the green halo to get a nice clean picture.
Submit photo to this folder when you are done.
5.7-iMovie- Green Screen Mini Project
Due Wednesday (4/16) at end of class.
Presentations Thursday (4/17) at beginning of class.
Groups:
Kodie & Devin & Talia
Jonanthan & Arieana & Connor
Trinity & Sydney
Sharidan & Kadin & Will
Ryder & Carter
Requirements-
Take a short video in front of the green screen (20 seconds).
Use iMovie to remove the green screen and replace with an animated background (still footage animated or video clip).
Be sure to use special effects to distort color, focus and transitions for your videos.
Export that iMovie file and upload it as a completed movie clip into Garage band or Soundtrap.
Use loops to create underscore for your clip. Make sure that the underscore enhances your videos
5.8-Sound effect creation
Due Monday (4/28) at end of class.
Presentations Tuesday (4/29) at beginning of class.
Requirements-
Select a scene from a film or TV show that is at least 30 seconds long. Email Ms. Schnacker a link to that video.
Use props and/or your voice to record live sound effects.
Add your recorded sound effects to your scene. You may also use sound effects from iMovie, but at least TWO of the sound effects used must be ones that you recorded live.
Make sure that the duration and timing of the sound effects line up with the video. If you would like to have more specific control over your sound effects, upload your sound effects to Garage Band and use the mix and master tools.
Combine all of the sound effects and video together using iMovie.
Websites with extra sound effects:
5.9-Multimedia- pick your project (gaming score or movie trailer)
Instructions-
Decide whether you want to create a movie trailer or video game clip series.
If you are doing a movie trailer- set up a new project in iMovie- "Trailer"
If you are doing a video game clip series- set up a new project in iMovie- "Movie"
Organize your project.
Decide what "theme" or type of story line you are going with (especially if you are doing the movie trailer).
Explore the different iMovie options in movie themes. (If you are doing the gaming sequence, explore filter options in iMovie).
Collect what ever videos you will need to complete this project. You may use videos you already have, although it is strongly recommended to film short videos that appropriately fit with your theme.
Begin placing your videos into the template or putting them in a usable order.
You will have more options to adjust timing
