Getting to Know Dr. Ramirez
The school year 2017-2018 is W.R. Coile’s first year with our new principal, Dr. Tomas Ramirez. Being his first year here, we don’t know much about him. We know his plans for our school but we don’t know much about his background like his family and simple things like his hobbies. So we, the news staff, took the initiative to have an interview with Dr. Ramirez. We came up with questions that no one really knows about him and we got some juicy answers worth sharing. Here they are.
Why did you want to be at Coile?
“I wanted to be back in the middle schools as a principal. I loved being around middle schools, I was a principal at 3 other middle schools.”
Do you have kids? (if so, where do they go to school?)
He is married and has 5 children, 3 boys and 2 girls. 4 of them are in Rhode Island, and the other one is in New Orleans. The youngest is 23 years old. He also has 3 grandchildren and Nathan is the youngest being 4 years old.
We hear that you are a vegetarian. Is this true? If so why? How long?
Yes, it started as a New Year’s resolution. It has been 5 or 6 years now. Before becoming a pescetarian, one who eats no meat with the exception of fish, he had high cholesterol but he now has low cholesterol. He has had many good health benefits come from being a pescetarian.
What was the last movie you’ve seen and last book you’ve read?
The last movie he has seen was Baby Driver and it was the first movie he saw in Athens. Unfortunately, he didn’t like it very much. His all time favorite movie is The Sting. The last book he read was Murder Mystery, a Jack Ryan novel, by Tom Clancy.
What time do you wake up in the morning? What do you eat for breakfast?
He wakes up at 5 AM and eats a light breakfast usually consisting of cheese, crackers, and coffee or juice.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
He enjoys playing Chess and doing anything connected to Science Fiction.
When was the last time you took a vacation? Where did you go?
The last time he went on a vacation was 3 years ago to Cancun.
Do you have any pets? If so what are they and how many?
He has never had any pets before but enjoys going on walks or jogs on a nice day.
It is pretty interesting to find out that Dr. Ramirez has 5 children and 3 grandchildren and that he is a big fan of Science Fiction. Also, that he has been a vegetarian for about 5 or 6 years. Well, now we know more about his personal life and not just his “principal life”.
