It was on a Friday at Carson Middle School. Close to the ending of the year. Me and my best friend were in the 6th grade back then. But I remember this story like it was yesterday.
We were in the computer lab with the science teacher, Mrs.Rolander, finishing study island sessions when out of the blue….”Liz, look at this”, said my best friend Tramyiah showing me a drawing of Mrs.Miller twerking on Mr.Pritchett. I laughed hard but quietly because people were still working.
“Put that away before Mrs.Rolander sees it," I whispered. But it was too late. While Mrs.Rolander was walking out the door, she saw the guilty on our faces as we glanced from her to the paper.
“Okay, let me see it," she said seriously. We heard people in the back saying “Ooooohhhh." The first time we didn’t even budge. My first instinct was to put the note in my mouth but then we might have been in even more trouble. She came over and grabbed the note out of Tramyiah’s hands, glanced at it a few times, and walked out the door without saying a word as if she was “reporting” it to the other teachers.
“I’m not getting in trouble with y’all," said Jayla, who was our other best friend. We looked at her and laughed because if we had a dollar for about every time she said that to us, we’d be halfway rich.
By that time we were in Mrs.Grier’s class. That was 4th period I believe. We saw the teachers in the hallway with smirks on their faces. I looked at Tramyiah, shrugged, and started smiling ,unsure of what might happen next. I mean there were other notes they didn’t know about at the time. But the guilt was starting to get to me.
Mrs.Grier was suspicious and said, “Y'all didn't write a note about me, did y'all?’’
“Yes, we did," I responded, "but in the note we called you a princess”.
That was the truth too, Mrs.Grier was one of our favorite teachers at the time besides Mrs.Gilbert. So we really didn’t have a reason to call her anything bad.
At the end of the day everyone even the teachers had their laughs and Mrs.Rolander made us apologize to Mrs.Miller and Mr.Pritchett. You could tell Mr.Pritchett was embarrassed by the way his cheeks were red, and Mrs.Miller seemed salty because she didn’t even look us in the eyes when she said she accepted our apology. From that day on the 6th grade teachers would try to keep me and Tramyiah apart. But little did they know we were a dynamic duo, and it would take more than moving to another school for us to stop being best friends.
