I had always thought of discrimination as a bad thing, but I didn’t really know what it was like to live during the time when Martin Luther King Jr. and others fought for Civil Rights. After listening to the "I have a Dream" speech, it helped me to visualize and understand what life was like during this time. The message that he was giving was urgent for these situations to be taken care of. He uses examples to point out that many people were being affected by discrimination and the lack of civil rights. Dr. King’s speech really taught me how to view those times of hardships.
King’s speech and efforts towards unification of all people has made a large impact today. We have definitely been brought together since 1963. In schools and other public places we are not divided by race, sex, religious belief, culture, or ethnicity. We are all given the same rights despite our differences. Martin Luther King’s dream helped us all to be treated equally and to unite all of our communities. It also helps bring together our families and our friends so we can all work together to make the world a better place.
