Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream was to bring people together. He wanted to end segregation. He wanted everyone to have equal rights. King did not want people that are different races or religions to be treated different than everyone else. He believes that everyone is equal, and therefore everyone should be treated like it.
From his speech, I’ve learned that everyone is equal inside and out. Nobody should be treated differently because of something as simple as race, gender, or religion. “I have a dream… one day right there in Alabama little black boys and little black girls will be able to join hands with little white boy and white girls as sisters and brothers.” This quote stands out to me because today, this can happen. Today I can walk with my friends and there is no problem with it. I think it’s amazing how 53 years ago, I would not be able to school with my awesome friends. Today, it’s not against the law for blacks and whites to go to the same school or store. It is truly amazing seeing how things have changed!
There are many things I can do in my life to bring people together. I could start a new charity for the homeless, or make special meetings for the city. Everyone could pitch in just a little and make the community better one person at a time. Things that have changed since he gave his speech are things like segregation, and racism violence. Not near as many violent things happen today as they did back then. Dr. Martin Luther King gave his speech and changed people’s views on segregation and racism, and helped them see that it’s immoral. That is exactly what Dr. King wanted. We can all make it happen.
