Inclusive Education

This site will be updated in the new year!  Thanks for your patience.

Our Inclusive Education department works to ensure that each child experiences a sense of belonging, while valuing diversity and the unique contributions each child brings.  Students, parents, and our educational team, including contracted consultants, participate in setting learning goals and supporting our students to attain these.  Our caring and qualified teachers and educational assistants meet the students where they are, and work with them individually and in small groups to help them along their path to successful learning.  As a team, we highly value Professional Development and are continually honing our practice to help us best meet the needs of our students.

Our reading intervention teachers are trained in evidence-based instruction which helps students grow into skilled readers with strong comprehension, problem-solving and other higher-order thinking skills.  While traditional reading or tutoring programs focus on content instruction, Lindamood-Bell programs focus on strengthening the sensory-cognitive processing necessary for reading and comprehension.

Our Inclusive Ed teachers and Educational Assistants help to support the needs of all students who need a little extra support; whether socially, emotionally, or academically.  We ensure all students are provided with opportunities to learn from a place of curiosity and inquiry, and are challenged in the classroom setting through differentiated instructional programs.

We hope you will find that our website provides some helpful snippets of information based around the BC Ministry of Education's categories of Special Education, and shares some information about the programs we offer. If you are curious about learning more, please reach out to our department or your family doctor to help set you up with some resources. We are always a safe place to ask questions, and will do our best to help you source the information you are looking for. If you suspect your child may be experiencing an aspect of learning difficulty and are looking for information regarding assessment or first steps to finding support, please speak to your child's teacher or email me directly at eamos@cisdv.bc.ca.
