Friends of Feeney is an organization in the United States that supports and raises money to help children and families after heartbreak and tragedy. During my time with Eric Feeney, the founder, I assisted with the Halloween Carnival event. My friend and I set up and took apart our booth, decorated the entire venue, and aided the kids struggling with disabilities to ensure they were having fun. For example, I ran the photo booth. I would provide words of encouragement and a welcoming presence/vibe so that everybody at this event would feel comfortable and joyful, regardless of their limitations.
Helping out in my community is important to me because it allows me to meet a wide range of new people and learn about their experiences, which has taught me the benefits of working collaboratively.

In 9th grade, I volunteered at Saint Andrew Lutheran Church throughout the summer. During this time, I played with the preschool children and helped teach them social awareness techniques, fine motor skills, communication, etc. Likewise, since it was a church camp, I would tell them stories from the Bible and sing songs praising the Lord. I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the children, playing with them, and sharing aspects of the religious world with them!
This experience showcases my character and my willingness to help others. It also demonstrates my leadership skills, seen through my taking care of the young children and leading various activities during the camp duration.
St. Peter Claver was the local church in my town, where Sunday school was held for the duration of the school year. I attended St. Peter Claver Church from first grade until grade nine. Two of my friends and I taught a Sunday school class for first-graders, and we were responsible for teaching them the curriculum the church required to receive First Communion. We did activities such as coloring, writing, speaking out in front of the class, and taking trips around the church to familiarize the children with the space. This experience brought me closer to each kid as I gained the opportunity to become more profound in communicating with people from different age groups. I had to find new ways to express my thoughts and feelings to ensure the young children obtained an adequate and beneficial education. Moreover, as the lead teacher, I created all the weekly lesson plans, strengthening my leadership capabilities and giving me time to show my dedication to the church.
During the winter, I was on my school's varsity track team, where I was able to travel to various regions in Connecticut to compete against other students. As a freshman, I managed to qualify for the 2022 Connecticut CIAC Indoor State Championships. At the end of my season, I received the Central Connecticut Conference All-Academic Award and the Conard High School Varsity Award. Being on a team and coming out of my comfort zone to try a sport I have never played taught me what it is like to persevere through challenges and show commitment towards my school and teammates.
