Again, I played on CIS's girls' varsity team as a center defender, and this year, I was one of the two captains. As a captain, I obtained a more pivotal role on the team, where I led warmups, assisted my coach in planning drills, was the leader of the defensive line during games, and offered words of encouragement and growth points for my teammates. Additionally, I really enjoyed being a leader of the team, as it allowed me to build and strengthen relationships with not only my teammates but also my coaches. I learned the importance of considering my words and actions and the potential impact they could have on other people, which is essential when being a role model for younger girls. Lastly, one of the highlights from this season was winning the league and being able to continue on CIS's legacy.
Some activities I engaged in during grade 12 include tubing and spending time on the ocean and my friend's boat, playing pickleball, baking and decorating cookies with friends, visiting local marine life sanctuaries, and participating in karaoke. Going out and trying new things has always been exciting, which is why I enjoy engaging in various activities. However, at some points, something that I found challenging was finding a balance between my personal and school life, as I noticed myself focusing more of my attention on my assignments. To reach a healthy balance, I made sure to prioritize spending time away from schoolwork on the weekends and making time in my schedule to try new activities with my friends.
Learner profiles: open-minded, communicator, caring
LO1: identify their own strengths and develop areas for personal growth
LO4: show commitment to and perseverance in their CAS experiences
Throughout my CAS experience, I have demonstrated commitment to my sport by continually engaging in competitions and helping my team finish the school season. From this, I have not only gained valuable relationships with my teammates, but I have also developed a greater sense of appreciation and respect for my coaches, as they have always been encouraging towards me. Additionally, being in a sports community has made me a more caring individual who always strives to help others, whether on the field or not.
LO5: demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
In order to work effectively with other people, one needs to be open-minded and a strong communicator, as this will allow collaboration to flow more easily. Fostering a welcoming environment among my peers and working with various people has allowed my perspective to expand and allowed me to become more accepting of people's different beliefs. Similarly, something that has contributed to my heightened ability to collaborate with others stems from my gain in confidence and willingness to not only speak with different groups but also to try new things.
