My friend Solana and I volunteer at the Cayman Humane Society, where we have cared for kittens/cats and walked dogs across the island. This is a non-profit business that shelters homeless animals with the aim to educate the public on ways to conserve and support our ecosystems.
I have always been an animal lover, so spending time at the Humane Society was always a highlight of my day. One of my favorite memories is when I bonded with one kitten, and he then would not leave my side!
Volunteering has made it clear to me how crucial it is to protect the environment and help people, and animals, in any way I can when they are in need.
At the end of each school year at CIS, the juniors host a senior breakfast, and we turn the cafeteria into our own restaurant with entertainment and food services. Some roles were set up/clean up, serving, plating, and cooking. As a server, I had to take the senior's orders and return them to the kitchen. Due to the staff shortage, I assisted with setting the tables and ensuring all the drinks and appetizer trays were prepared. This was an entertaining event where all the juniors were working together, and it was an excellent way to spend some of our last days with the seniors.
From this breakfast, I learned that patience is vital when many people are trying to do the same things. I continuously had to wait for the servers before me and for the food to come out. Also, I dealt with challenges such as seniors needing to receive the correct order, which was easily fixed by just a swap in the kitchen!
I have assisted in the execution of two main events in NHS this year, including "Wax to the Max" and the "Winter Movie Special." Moreover, I helped brainstorm ideas and logistics, create posters and advertisements, and prepare for the events by cleaning up and putting away the needed materials. During these processes, I worked with my peers below and above my grade level to create the most efficient and engaging plans to raise money and awareness for our NHS branch.
However, not everything went as planned. For example, we did not have enough volunteers for the "Wax to the Max" and struggled to find new candidates shortly before the event. We had to promptly scramble to find people willing to participate, which required further communication among my schoolmates. Hence, this taught me the importance of resilience and adapting to conflicts that were not planned for.

LO3: initiate and plan
LO4: show commitment to and perseverance
I have shown commitment to my community service activities through my continual desire and presence to show up and attempt to make a difference within my school's community and also the Cayman Island's community. Being involved within these different groups has made me more knowledgeable when engaging with issues that take place both locally and globally.
LO7: ethical choices and actions
When helping with the greater good of my communities, I have needed to consider the ethical concerns within my choices and actions because, in doing so, I am ensuring the integrity and positive effect that my actions have on others. I can make reasonable decisions through critical thinking and communicating with others to validate my plans and ideas.
