This year for the ARK Halloween Carnival, my friend Sophia and I were responsible for running the pie-in-the-face station where students could pay money to pie a specific teacher in the face with whipped cream. This particular station has been a staple at CIS for many years, and it is a tradition of ARK. Moreover, the funds collected for the Carnival went straight back to the ARK foundation to help with the funding of different projects.
For the pie-in-the-face, many students from all grade levels come together, which is really nice to see. I enjoyed working this station and being first-hand with a lively event such as this one.
I went around CIS selling and promoting the ARK Giving Tree to all grade levels, as all the gift cards collected would be benefiting local households that struggle to purchase necessity goods during the holiday season. Something that was exciting for me was checking the donation box after promoting the Tree and seeing many gift cards in the box, indicating that people were interested in helping ARK.
The ARK Tree is another tradition at CIS, and I am glad I got to be a part of it during my last year at the school because ARK is a pivotal group within CIS that is dedicated to promoting the well-being of children and households - striving for the greater good of the community.
Going to the ARK Hub was a continued event that took place where a group of CIS students would visit the younger kids, spend time with them, and engage in any activity that their supervisors had planned for the day. I have always enjoyed visiting the ARK Hub and building relationships with the children, especially since some of the kids have been attending the ARK after-school program for many years. Likewise, it is a rewarding experience to know that I am able to make an impact on these children, regardless how small or big.
However, one challenge that I have faced this year within the ARK Hub was becoming increasingly consumed by not only school work, but also university applications. This therefore impacted my attendance to ARK and made me less available to participate on a weekly basis. I attempted to work around this problem by ensuring that I was engaged with other ARK events, such as the Giving Tree and the Halloween Carnival.
