To get the best possible experience, students on this trip are expected to be open-minded and good communicators.
A great part of this trip will be spent surrounded with younger children, therefore, students should display good social interactions with others.
As students will see a different way of life and culture, empathy is a necessary skill to have.
As the Senegal project is a service trip students will need to be resilient and have to push themselves to help the local community. Dependending on fundraising and development at Les Cajoutiers, the service component might include a building project, or more likely an arts and crafts project, so students should be adaptable to change.
The students should aslo be resourceful to find ideas for fund/donations collection prior to the trip and be engaged with the fundraising and preparation leading to the trip. Students will be expected to raise funds with a target of 2000 HKD per student.
Other skills that could be very handy, but not necessary, for this trip:
creativity and imagination to entertain young children speaking a different language
artistic skills
swimming
some knowledge of the French language
some knowledge of sign language (ASL)
A French 'survival' phrasebook will be shared with the students prior to the trip for those who would like to have some French basis.
