Located around 88 kilometres away from Dakar, Warang is a thriving coastal town in Senegal that's seeing a boom in popularity. The area has beautiful beaches lined with cliffs like the cliffs of Popenguine, Bandia Reserve, the Natural Reserve of Popenguine and the Natural Reserve of Somone Community.
Warang has a traditional economy, predominantly propped up by fishing, agriculture and handicrafts.
Les Cajoutiers is a charity set up in 2008 by a Belgian-Senegalese couple in Warang, Senegal. It provides education, a balanced diet and health and social care, allowing children from poor families to have an opportunity for a better future.
The primary school for children from 3 to 11 years old opened in 2009 and gradually grew through the years. It now has over 600 students.
Les Cajoutiers also has a boarding house for impoverished deaf children, providing care and boarding to those coming from distant regions of the country. Since 2015, the school also has a section for children suffering from Down Syndrome. In 2020, the school also opened a new section with two classes at Cajoutiers Inclusive School for Deaf and Hearing children (EISEC), where deaf and hearing students learn together. In 2024, the school moved to the model of being a fully inclusive school, with "hearing-only" classes being gradually phased out.
More information about the charity, the school and its history can be found on their website or their Facebook page.
