Reading for pleasure and developing a love of reading is at the heart of our reading curriculum at Churchfield. In addition to daily story time and literacy sessions, adults prioritise reading throughout the day. Adults join children in the book corners, tell puppet stories and bring stories to life through role-play and small world activities.
Reading with children every day helps to develop their vocabulary, imagination, listening and concentration skills. It also has a hugely positive impact on their well-being and social skills.
Reading Environments
There are cozy reading areas in our classrooms and outdoor areas where the children can go to share books with their classmates and teachers.
The children enjoy spending time sharing books with their friends in our book corners.
Home Reading
The children choose a book to take home each week to share with their parents or carers.
Reading with your child every day makes a huge impact on their progress at school across the whole curriculum. It makes them more likely to be successful at school.
Staff and parents make comments in the children's reading records.
Developing a Love of Reading
The children complete a reading challenge at home with their parents and shared photos of the books they had read.
