The Characteristics of Effective Learning are used as a key part of the Early Years framework. The characteristics helps us to see how children learn and apply the skills that they have been taught in their independent play. The characteristics help us to identify ways to support children to become more engaged and actively involved in their own learning.
We want all children to be active learners so we create an environment which enables them to explore and these skills independently; and with support from adults where appropriate. We believe it's important for children to see themselves, their friends and all adults as active learners so we encourage them to ask questions, be inquisitive and make links in their learning during their independent play.
Please see below for the Characteristics of Effective Learning.
At Churchfield, we follow and use the Statutory Framework for the EYFS in our practise to ensure that we are preparing children for the National Curriculum when they begin Year 1. Please click the link below for more information on this framework.
We also use the Birth to 5 Matters document to support us in planning and delivering an engaging curriculum.
