Born Dec. 7, 1942, New York, N.Y., —died July 16, 1981
Harry Chapin was an American singer-guitarist who became well known for his humanitarian efforts—particularly his antihunger crusade—as well as for his music.
Chapin confounded World Hunger Year in 1975 and made numerous trips to Capitol Hill and other forums to express the need to feed all people. “No one should go hungry.” Every other concert Chapin performed in the second half of his career was a benefit for hunger. Chapin’s wife accepted a Special Congressional Gold Medal on his behalf in 1987.
