Teaching & Learning
This pathway focuses on the general theory and practice of learning and teaching, the basic principles of educational psychology, the art of teaching, the planning and administration of educational activities, school safety and health issues, and the social foundations of education.
Example Careers: Teacher, Principal, Assistant Principal, School Counselor, Speech Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Instructional Coach, Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent
Teaching and Learning scholars will develop communication and leadership skills through the career and technical student organization, Educators Rising.
Students interested in becoming educators may be interested in applying for the Rotary Impact Program.
Pathway Course Sequence

Exploring Teaching Career Options is the introductory course in the Teaching and Learning Pathway. It is designed to give scholars an overview of the education field. Throughout this course, scholars will explore five domains of topics relevant to the current practices and issues in education today. These topics include the professional educator, the students, the classroom, the community, and the profession of teaching. Field experiences are included in this course throughout the year. These experiences will be in a classroom setting across all grade levels and multiple content areas. (This course does not count toward the four courses that are required for pathway completion.)

In this course, The Learning Community, students develop an understanding of the various responsibilities and systems involved in the K-12 educational system. Specifically, students will acquire the knowledge of education through the perspectives of classroom, school, district, state, and federal roles.

This course will develop rising educators' awareness of their funds of knowledge, as well as their personal biases that develop from their life experiences. Using research-based methods, rising educators will develop methods to impact student equity based on culturally competent models as well as growth mindset methods.

In this course, The Professional Educator, students will develop an understanding of how educators advance their profession within the classroom. Specifically, students will gain both the knowledge and skills to plan, deliver, and reflect on the process of teaching and learning.

In this course, students will refine the required knowledge and skills to be an effective educator while also practicing the dispositions necessary for the educational profession. Specifically, students will gain an understanding of how teachers lead through individual and collaborative growth and reflection. Students participate in clinical experiences. This is a student teaching experience where students should spend almost all their time in a classroom learning setting appropriate to their intended teaching discipline.
Dual Credit Opportunities
The following Murray State University courses require tuitions/fees to be paid by the student. Courses may qualify for the Work Ready Scholarship, if student applies and is granted the scholarship. Students must complete a CCPS Dual Credit Application and meet MSU dual credit criteria.
In the event a student transfers from one high school to another while taking the MSU dual credit course, the student may be required to complete the course as an independent study course.

Course introduces potential teacher candidates to the work and culture of the teaching profession through required clinical observations and interactions in an appropriate school setting in early childhood, elementary, middle school, and secondary school environments. Candidates will actively explore the importance of professional identity, roles and responsibilities; knowledge, skills, and dispositions; student-centered practice; and students’ developmental and cultural needs. Course addresses human development as a foundation for student learning across the lifespan. Specifically, candidates will develop a basis for creating developmentally appropriate instruction and assessment. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the importance of building relationships, developing collaborative partnerships, and creating a culturally responsive, student-centered environment to meet all students’ needs. Course introduces students to the wide variety of emerging and existing technology applications that are commonly seen in modern educational classrooms.
