Progression Step - Progression Step 1 covers the development a typical child will make between 3 and 5 years old. A neurotypically developed 3-year-old has a vocabulary of 200 words or more and can string together three or four word sentences. A 5-year-old will have a vocabulary of between 1,000 and 2,000 words, they can make up stories, retell stories and talk about things they do. They are also recognising that letters and numbers have meaning. There are lots of concepts to understand at this stage as their language develops. If a typically developing pupil is taking 2 years to progress through Progression Step 1, then a pupil with ALN (Additional Learning Need) could take 4 years or more. See the assessment overview

SCERTS - research-based educational approach and multidisciplinary framework that directly addresses the core challenges faced by children and persons with ASD and related disabilities, and their families. SCERTS focuses on building competence in Social Communication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional Support as the highest priorities that must be addressed in any program, and is applicable for individuals with a wide range of abilities and ages across home, school and community settings.
