Welcome to Pathways

Childs hill school

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to Pathways, the Autism Resource Provision (ARP) at Childs Hill Primary School for autistic children (those diagnosed with ASD/ASC) aged 4-11. The first ARP in our CHC Federation opened in Childs Hill Primary School in 1997, supporting children with language and communication difficulties and educating autistic children exclusively since 2011. Pathways provision at Claremont Primary School opened in April 2020; a year after the schools became CHC Federation.

Both Claremont and Childs Hill are two form entry primary schools with an ARP funded for 12 children in each. Our ARPs provide personalised learning experience and education for 24 children in total across both schools.

For some autistic children, learning in mainstream environment can be a serious challenge. Education in Pathways offers great flexibility, taking into account each pupil’s strengths in areas of visual perception, attention to detail, creative and artistic talents, mathematical and technical abilities, interests in 'niche' areas to name a few, as well as developmental and emotional stages. Our carefully planned education programme inspires children to achieve their full potential through strengths based approach and motivating, structured and passionate teaching. This in turn develops confidence, curiosity and independent learning within a safe, supportive and inclusive environment.

Our school policies promote inclusion and diversity and recognise the impact of autism on our pupils and their families. The school's policies and development plans reflect our duties under the Disability Discrimination Act and the inclusion framework. Please see our school website for more information and current policy overview.

Raising awareness of Neurodiversity is fundamental to the inclusive practice of both schools. We believe that neurodivergence is a strength, which should be respected and celebrated by all those who learn, teach, visit and work in Childs Hill and Claremont.

We celebrate our diverse community through joint community events, assemblies, World’s Autism Acceptance Week, Neurodiversity Week, and PSHE lessons and workshops. We have a team of devoted peer buddies amongst mainstream pupils who work closely with children in Pathways and in their Linked Classrooms.

We welcome visitors.
