assessment and Tapestry

In Pathways we have two main assessment systems to track academic progress and progress in social communication and emotional regulation. All pupils are assessed three times a year: Autumn, Spring and Summer term.

Bsquared Connecting Steps

The focus of the planning and teaching of academic skills in Pathways is on forward progress, rather than a completion of year expectations. The Bsquared assessment is designed to track academic progress of pupils within the National Curriculum framework, showing steps of progress for pupils whose learning is impacted by their diverse learning styles. All children are baselined through assessment which is typically conducted by the class teacher within the first half term of the child's admission to Pathways. Teachers use their professional judgement and the baseline as a starting point to plan learning objectives for individual pupils in Maths and English. The progress of our pupils is reviewed and shared with parents every term.

SCERTS

A great emphasis is given to development of executive functioning skills, social norms and independence in learning and transferring these skills into functional context, taking into consideration each child’s aptitudes and learning styles. The SCERTS assessment forms the basis of a research-based educational approach and multidisciplinary framework that directly addresses the core challenges faced by children with autism. It focuses on building competence in Social Communication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional Support as the highest priorities, and is applicable for individuals with a wide range of abilities and ages across home, school and community settings.

SCERTS and B Squared assessment systems are used to inform weekly teaching and planning. As part of our assessment procedure we collect evidence of 2-3 pieces of children’s work which are collated in children’s learning book. Additional evidence is gathered through video recordings as well as photographs which are shared on a daily basis through Tapestry platform.

TAPESTRY

Tapestry is our online learning and observation platform. We use Tapestry daily to record your child’s progress and learning in the class through videos and photographs. It is also a great platform to promote discussions with your child about their day in school. You can share your child's achievements at home by sending us your own images and recordings. Tapestry can be accessed either via laptop, desktop or your mobile device.
