Chico High’s academic counselors guide students through every stage of their high school journey, ensuring they stay on track for graduation and future goals. They support students with course selection, four-year planning, college and career exploration, and navigating CSU, UC, community college, and vocational pathways. Academic counselors also monitor academic progress, coordinate interventions when students need assistance, and connect families with school resources. Their focus is helping each student build a strong academic foundation and create a personalized plan for life after high school.
A wellness counselor at Chico High supports students’ overall well-being, separate from the academic planning handled by school counselors. The Wellness Team, located in the Wellness Counseling Room on campus, provides services focused on emotional regulation, stress reduction, and healthy coping skills. Students can access counseling resets, mindfulness and breathing exercises, yoga, decompression strategies, conflict-resolution support, and referrals to community mental-health resources. Wellness counselors help students build resilience, manage daily challenges, and maintain balance so they can thrive both in and out of the classroom.
Chico High’s school psychologist supports students by addressing learning, behavioral, and mental-health needs that may impact their success in school. They conduct educational assessments, help determine appropriate supports and services, and collaborate with teachers, counselors, and families to create effective intervention plans. The school psychologist also provides short-term counseling, crisis support, and strategies that promote positive behavior, emotional regulation, and a safe, supportive school environment. Their role ensures that every student has access to the tools and resources needed to learn and thrive.
Chico High’s case carriers provide specialized support for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), ensuring each student receives the services and accommodations outlined in their plan. They work closely with students, families, and teachers to monitor progress, adjust supports as needed, and advocate for each student’s learning needs. Case carriers coordinate IEP meetings, develop goals, and help implement strategies that promote academic growth, independence, and success in the classroom. Their role ensures that students with disabilities have consistent guidance, meaningful support, and access to the resources required to thrive at Chico High.
Chico High’s Targeted Case Manager works directly with students who need additional support to overcome barriers that may affect their academic success or school engagement. Through regular check-ins, coordination with teachers, and collaboration with families, the Targeted Case Manager helps monitor progress, address attendance concerns, and connect students with academic, behavioral, and community resources. This role ensures that students receive individualized guidance, consistent follow-through, and targeted interventions so they can stay connected, supported, and successful throughout their high school experience.
