Students who are interested in receiving federal and state financial aid for college should apply for FAFSA. The application process is free and only takes 20 minutes.
Both Student and Parent will need to have a FSA ID to submit your application. The FSA ID gives you access to Federal Student Aid's online systems and can serve as your legal signature.
Step one: Register for a Federal Student Aid Identification Number
Step two: Apply for Federal Student Aid through FAFSA
FAFSA4Caster is a free financial aid calculator that gives you an early estimate of your eligibility for federal student aid.
The California Dream Act allows eligible undocumented and nonresident students to receive state and college financial aid, including Cal Grants, community college fee waivers, and some private scholarships. To qualify, students must meet AB 540 requirements and submit the California Dream Act Application (CADAA).
If you know what university you are going to once the FAFSA is submitted, you should also complete any specific financial aid applications the college requires and respond to your official financial aid offer, which will be sent to you after your application is processed. Below is a list of California Universities and links to the Scholarship page.

Most scholarships ask for at least one letter of recommendation. Below is some information to help you prep for the meeting. A letter of recommendation is a letter written by a teacher, coach, counselor, or other adult who knows you well. It explains your strengths, achievements, and character. You may need letters of recommendation for college applications, scholarships, programs, jobs, or other opportunities.
WHEN TO ASK - at least 3 weeks before you need it. Give whoever you request from time to be thoughtful about the letter they plan to write for you.
WHO TO ASK - it is good to request from different people in your life to show off all your well roundedness: teachers, coaches, counselors, employers, advisors for your clubs or groups you attend.
WHAT COULD I EXPECT TO PROVIDE - Click link HERE for outline of information to provide.
CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS - Let the amazing person that is creating your letter of rec know how you would like to receive it.
