3D Humanoid Robot
IDEA EXPLORATION
INITIAL FOCUS: I want to design a fun cartoon-esque android steam punk or medieval robot.
11/5: 3D Humanoid Robot (Android) Inspiration Board
11/5: 3D Humanoid Robot (Android) Inspiration Board - ANNOTATED.
11/5: Design Thoughts, Analysis, and Reflection
I like the simple design and the enlarged eyes.
I love all the details
I like the small torso, long arms and legs.
I like the large oversized head and extremities.
I like the disproportionate scale
I like the flow of the character.
DESIGN OBJECTIVE: I will DESIGN and MODEL an humanoid robot that has a simple design with a slightly oversized head & exaggerated features, small torso, long arms and legs, flowing lines, and lots of detail.
DESCRIPTIVE WORDS: Tough, Angles, Alien, Muscular, Battle Ready
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
12/3: Thumbnail Sketching - Proportions in Krita - Explore!
Based on my exploration, I roughed out simple proportion configurations.
Reflect and Annotate
4/25: 2D Sketching & Exploring Design with Krita
Initial Proportions - Good
I really like the 1st quick sketch.
I liked the head, but torso is not right.
I like the direction, but needs a bit of cleanup. Still the the 3rd version alien looking head more.
OK, I think it is a good direction.
This is my final rough draft.
CREATION PROCESS
5/8: 3D Sketching Designs
I started by 3d sketching a simple robot design focusing on a silhouette. I created a character with larger head, longer legs and arms.
5/10: Created a Simple Mixamo 'Quick Rig' Test with my Robots Movement
FINAL DESIGN & REFLECTION
5/12: Model Detail Update
12/5: Sketching Designs on Reference
I sketched on top of my simple model so I can keep proportions and silhouette.
Here is my initial concept sketch. And I really Like it. Lets see how it will look as a 3d model.
12/7: Imported ROBO into Maximo - Rigged Character
Watch this rather verbose video and learned how to rigged the character. The video was still very good and straight forward. I don think I can memorize the steps, but will write a simpler tutorial ASAP.
I used this video to learn how to toggle between Walk/Jog
OK . . . It is a good test, but I do not like the up/down stairs animation.
