What is a forgivable loan program?
Forgivable loan programs, also known as Forgivable Education Loans for Service (FELS), provide financial assistance to qualified students who are committed to working in specific employment professions. These professions typically are critical need areas that may have a shortage of workers. Programs require students to "work off" their loan by working in the field within a certain time after earning a degree or certificate. The work service pays back the debt (it is not pulled from the salary).
