Congratulations to Owen Malyon and Alex Hamlin, who have both graduated from the Young Reporter Scheme for 2025 run by News Quest Media. Over the course of the past eight months, they have both shown real commitment to the programme and produced work of a high standard. Balancing this alongside their regular studies is no small achievement. Owen and Alex each had to write eight articles over the course of the programme to graduate. Both students had an article published in the Student Comet, the magazine run by the scheme, including a front page article in the Autumn 2024 edition from Owen on Ware Dickensian evening. Well done to both students. This is our third year working with the Young Reporter Scheme, and we will be offering the opportunity to students in Years Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen again next year. Our Year 13 students took part in an excellent workshop today with Herts Young Homeless, focused on preparing them for the realities of independent living. The session explored the practicalities of moving to university or into private rented accommodation, giving students a clearer understanding of what life beyond school may look like. They also learnt important lessons about the cost of living and budgeting - essential knowledge to help them make confident, informed decisions as they take their next steps. Later in the week, they had a presentation from Tip of the Iceberg - A thought-provoking workshop exploring themes such as happiness vs success, communication, and self-development as students prepare for the future.Â
