This morning, eight Year Seven students took our 98kg of donations down to the foodbank, where they sorted the food, weighed in donations and checked the expiry dates. Thank you to the families of Chauncy who donated, and thanks to Ware Foodbank for having us!
The Step into the NHS competition introduces students to more than 350 NHS careers, inspiring and motivating them to fulfil their potential, whatever their interests and skills. KS3 pupils are challenged to create a job advertisement showcasing one NHS role of their choice. The advert must highlight the key responsibilities of the role, as well as any relevant qualifications, skills, and experience. Year 7 and 8 Chauncy students have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the competition as part of their art homework. They have been fascinated to discover some of the lesser-known NHS roles, including falconry, emergency medical dispatcher, clinical coder, and many more. Students have produced a wide range of creative outcomes, including sculpture, painting, drawing, collage, and video entries.

Congratulations to Ellie (7 MAPLE), who is this year's Regional Winner for the East of England in the STEP INTO THE NHS 2026 competition. Judges said that Ellie had created 'A beautiful poster that captures the role of a children's nurse. Wonderful artwork with a great strapline and call to action.' In addition, Lacey Phillips's work was selected as one of 11 'Highly Commended' works, and the judges said, 'It creatively shows the role of a radiographer using a model of an X-ray machine.' More than 2,200 entries were received from over 3,300 pupils from all parts of England this year. Students worked alone or in groups to create a job advert by researching an NHS role and using their creativity to create an advert that appeals to their peers. Ellie's and Lacey's work can be seen online here alongside the other regional winners and a selection of entries. Well done, girls!
