Targeting Computer Science in the Classroom Summer Professional Development
Through Microsoft TEALS, Code.org training and district certification, teachers are being equipped to teach the next generation of learners.
By giving all K-12 students the chance to experience the power of coding and computer science, we are ensuring they are college, career and life ready.
With a well-defined variety of career pathways, both employers and future students will play a role in the future of work in Wisconsin.
Over 3 years, the TechSpark WI region TEALS program grew from 32% of ALL high schools to 75%. (21 TEALS/28 High Schools). TEALS schools are aligned on the importance of training computer science teachers and creating computer science pathways for students.
Schools are forming CS Pathways/Areas of Study and offering multiple CS classes.
AP CS classes being offered are at all-time high. 2017-18 school year, 14% of the high schools taught AP CS classes. By the 2020-21 school year, 50% of the high schools, will teach AP CS classes (Principles and/or A).
Since 2017, PUMP CS has provided training for K-12 teachers to incorporate and teach computer science curriculum in their classrooms.
