Our textbook outlines four general theoretical perspectives of learning: cognitive psychology, social cognitive theory, behaviorism, and contextual theories.
Principles of the cognitive psychology perspective can be seen under the “Cognition” page, so this section will focus on the latter three theories.
"Theoretical perspective that focuses on how people learn by observing others and how they eventually assume control over their own behavior" (Ormrod, 2020, p. 363).
"Theoretical perspective in which learning and behavior are described and explained in terms of stimulus-response relationships" (Ormrod, 2020, p. 326).
"Theoretical perspective that focuses on how people’s general physical, social, and/or cultural surroundings support their learning, development, and behavior" (Ormrod, 2020, p. 282).
