Daniels Scholarship Opens September 15!
The Daniels Scholarship Program, one of the most generous in the country, will accept applications from September 15 to October 17, 2025. It supports high-achieving students from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming with up to full cost of attendance at partner schools, or up to $25,000 per year at any other accredited nonprofit college in the U.S. More than financial aid, the scholarship includes personal support, leadership development, and a lifelong alumni network.
What’s New This Year
Student Progress Emails
Counselors listed by students during registration will now receive two email updates. One will be sent midway through the application window, and the second will come closer to the deadline. Each update will include the names of students who have registered and those who have submitted applications.
This new approach replaces the printed counselor mailing. Access flyers, posters, social media graphics, and more in our Digital Toolkit.
Expanded Partner School List
Scholars may attend any accredited, nonprofit, four-year college or university in the U.S. However, partner schools offer the most financial support.
Scholarship coverage by school type:
• Partner schools in CO, NM, UT, and WY: Full cost of attendance
• Other schools nationwide: Up to $25,000 per year
• Non-partner schools in our region: Up to $7,500 per year

We look forward to connecting with you and your students this fall as we welcome applications for Tufts University’s class of 2030. This year, we are introducing several small changes to Tufts’ undergraduate admissions process. These changes are meant to provide more clear guidance to prospective students while strengthening our application review process. We are sharing this so that you can best counsel students who are considering applying to Tufts this cycle.
Standardized Testing
Tufts is proudly SAT/ACT test-optional for all applicants. And research has shown that the more information applicants have, the more informed choices they make about whether to submit scores for consideration. To that end, we are offering consistent guidance to all applicants:
Generally, we encourage applicants with a 1300 or higher on the SAT or a 28 or higher on the ACT to feel confident submitting their scores with their application to Tufts.
Importantly, these are not thresholds. We have admitted students with scores below these numbers each year, and denied admission to students with scores above these numbers. Our evaluation process seeks evidence of preparation for the rigor of the Tufts academic experience. Scores at or above these numbers, alongside a rigorous curriculum and strong grades, can add evidence of preparation to a student’s application.
In recent years, ~50% of applicants have submitted SAT or ACT scores and ~60% of admitted students have submitted scores. Tufts does not require students who sit for the ACT exam to take the optional Science section.
Portfolios
Tufts continues to require all applicants to the BFA programs at the School of Museum of Fine Arts to submit a visual art portfolio for admission consideration.
We are no longer accepting portfolios of any kind for applicants to the School of Engineering or the School of Arts & Sciences. We encourage applicants to summarize any information they would have shared in such a supplemental portfolio in other areas of their application.
This update is meant to direct an applicant’s energy toward the components of the application that have the most impact on our selection process, including academic performance in the classroom, effective summaries of engagements in the relevant sections of the application, and substantive, thoughtful essay responses.
Essays
After hearing from applicants how difficult it was to respond to the "Why Tufts?" short-answer prompt in 100 words or less, we have increased the word count limit to 250 words. That said, quality over quantity still matters to our Admissions Committee.
For guidance on what we look for in this particular "Why Tufts?" prompt and information about our Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Usage policy, check out these blog posts:
Answering Tufts’ Short-Answer Questions
The Role of Writing in an Art School Application
Fine Print
Applicants to Tufts apply directly into one of our three undergraduate schools: the School of Arts & Sciences, the School of Engineering, or the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Admission is highly competitive each year, with ~10-11% of applicants admitted through a holistic selection process. For more information about the Tufts application process, please visit our website. Tufts continues to meet 100% of demonstrated financial need for all admitted students, regardless of citizenship.
This cycle’s application deadlines are as follows:
Early Decision 1: November 3, 2025
Early Decision 2: January 5, 2026
Regular Decision: January 5, 2026
Thank you for all you do in support of students on their paths to higher education.
Sincerely,
JT Duck
Dean of Admissions and Enrollment Management

WOMEN
DEADLINE
MARCH 18, 2025
The Rural Gone Urban Foundation scholarship season is back, and we are committed to supporting as many rural women as possible as they pursue college, trade school, and professional training.
We start with 10 scholarships at $1,000 each, but if we raise more, we give more. Last year, because of donors like you, we funded three extra scholarships beyond what we had planned.
There are no GPA requirements, just a focus on work ethic, determination, and impact. We are giving you everything you need ahead of time so you can prepare your best application before the window opens.
Brooke Taylor
Rural Gone Urban Foundation Board Chair
Who’s Eligible?
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Be a rural woman pursuing higher education through trade school, college, or university.
Be a U.S. citizen.
Have been accepted into an eligible program (proof of acceptance required).
Apply on their own behalf – parents, this one’s not for you!
What You’ll Need to Apply
To help applicants prepare, here’s what will be required:
Personal Information (hometown, high school, graduation year, etc.)
Letters of Recommendation (two required)
Short Essays
Tell us your story. Tell us your challenges, your successes, your aspirations. You can share as much or as little as you like in terms of personal details. We simply want to get an idea of who you are and where you want to go with the help of this scholarship.
Tell us about the accomplishment you are most proud. Remember, not all accomplishments are strictly related to education. We want to hear about it, even if it's not directly related to school.
The Rural Gone Urban Foundation was created to support brave and strong women. Tell us about a brave or strong woman in your life.
What do you see as the biggest obstacles -- not including financial needs -- in attending an educational institution?
What are your educational and professional goals?
Third-Person Bio & Headshot
Proof of Enrollment
Additionally, applicants can submit video or audio responses for accessibility.

Recipients will be announced in April. The exact date will be determined by the sheer quantity of applications the volunteer committee needs to review.
Hello,
As we announced in our monthly newsletter to counselors last week, we're hosting a virtual info session this evening from 5-6pm [at this link] about the ROCA NM program. We welcome current juniors, counselors, families. I've visited a number of high schools already, and will be doing in-person recruitment throughout March, but we wanted to offer a virtual opportunity for students and families as well.
We'll walk through the program and benefits, give a short spot to the application, and hear from some former ROCA participants who are now in college!
No need to RSVP, but hope you can join us at 5pm tonight.
The application for ROCA is due March 31.

WHAT’S THE VIBE IN 2025?
We're looking forward to another year of Student Success in 2025!
We want to get Future Greyhounds prepared for college life in as many ways as possible, including the financial side of things and easing that burden. How do we do that? Scholarships, of course!
We offer an abundance of scholarship opportunities, many of which your students may be eligible to receive. It isn’t too late for them to take advantage of these resources… while many schools put a Jan. 1 deadline on scholarships, here at Eastern, Future Greyhounds have until Aug. 1 to make our scholarship priority deadline.
Our most prestigious and sought-after award is the Green and Silver Presidential Scholarship, which is given to 10 high-achieving students per year. The deadline for this scholarship is March 4, so please encourage your students to consider filling out the presidential scholarship application sooner rather than later!
An additional route to student success and learning about how that is our focus at Eastern (and how we make it happen): having Future Greyhounds join us for either our in-person or virtual ENMU Open House events, which they can register for at the links below. They can also sign up for a customized personal tour of campus below, as well!
Signing off! We’ll chat again next month!

FAFSA
Updates and Reminders
FAFSA Simplification: This year’s FAFSA has undergone significant changes to simplify the application process. It’s open now, so be sure to encourage students and families to file as soon as possible to maximize their aid eligibility.
Key Deadlines: Remind families to check federal, state, and institutional deadlines to avoid missing critical opportunities.
Student Aid Report (SAR): After submission, students should review their SAR carefully to ensure all information is correct and to understand their Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
Calculate Student Aid: Parents can use the Federal Student Aid Estimator to determine how much federal aid they will qualify for.
WE WILL HAVE A FAFSA SESSIONS SOON
SCHOLARSHIP TIPS
Start Early: If they haven’t already, encourage students to begin their scholarship search now. There are more scholarships coming online over the coming weeks they won’t want to miss out on.
Application Strategy: It can be tempting to just apply to those big dollar, no essay scholarships, but students stand a much better chance of winning if they apply for local, more specific matches that require a bit more time and effort.
Personalize Applications: A strong personal statement tailored to the specific scholarship can set students apart. Students should lean into the essay! This is something they will need for their college application, too.

OTHER SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Each college and/or academic department at NMSU offers internal funding through our scholarship application ScholarDollar$. When applying for scholarships, Scholar Dollar$ will automatically render questions based on a student’s academic profile (campus, college, major, GPA, etc). This single application allows the student to be considered for all NMSU scholarships, so the more questions answered the better the odds are for scholarship eligibility. This application is available to all potential and current students regardless of campus. ScholarDollar$ opens every year on October 1st and has a priority deadline of March 1st.
You can access this application at: scholarships.nmsu.edu
NMSU students often qualify for private or external scholarships based on various criteria, including need, academic performance, interests, and background. NMSU provides a website that lists some private scholarships by their deadline that we believe students would be interested in. Please keep in mind, these awards are funded by public and private organizations and not NMSU. Financial Aid does review all scholarships before posting, but still encourages students to always be cautious with online scholarship applications.
You can find these scholarships at: fa.nmsu.edu/scholarships/private.html
