If selected, students attend two in-person meetings at UNM in Albuquerque (Sep & Apr), as well as one virtual meeting (Feb). The best part– it's completely free. This includes gas, meals, and hotel for students and families traveling to Albuquerque to attend. Students who participate also receive access to paid internship opportunities.

Minimum 2.75 GPA
Enrolled in a New Mexico high school
Must pass a pre-employment drug test

ENVIRONMENTAL INTERNSHIPS
SEEDS Sustainability Internship
Deadline: 5/2/25
The SEEDS Sustainability Internship is open to students with an interest in sustainability energy. Interns will assist in implementing the SEEDS program by attending assessment training, completing basic energy assessments, and follow up with clients. You should have good oral and written communication skills, computer literacy, and working knowledge of environmental issues and polies in order to be considered for this internship.
EarthDay.org Summer Internship
Deadline: Varies
The EarthDay.org Summer Internship is available to students with a strong interest in environmental issues and a commitment to solving climate change, ending plastic pollution, and protecting biodiversity. Roles are available in the following departments: communications, development and fundraising, education, The Great Global Cleanup, Plastics and End Plastics Campaign, and universities and national campaigns. This internship can be fully remote or hybrid.
Environment America Internship

The Environment America Internship is open to students who are passionate about the environment. Interns will gain experience and make a difference on important environmental issues like plastic pollution, clean energy, protecting open spaces, and more. Opportunities are available nationwide.
The Chicago Botanic Garden REU Program
Deadline: Varies
The Chicago Botanic Garden REU Program is available to undergraduate participants with the opportunity to explore a diverse array of scientific fields related to plant biology and conservation. As an intern, you will be trained in all stages of research, from hypothesis formulation through experimental design, data collection, analysis, and ultimately presentation of results through a public research symposium.
Laureus Sustainability Internship

The Laureus Sustainability Internship is available to available to students 18 years and older who are tech savvy with Microsoft Office/other applications, possess excellent communication skills, are innovative, can work in a fast-paced environment, and are energetic and eager to assist on projects and initiatives. As an intern, you will contribute to a variety of research methods to analyze, report, and provide recommendations for sustainability projects and programs. You will also aide in the development and implementation of social impact initiatives and events and assist in developing communications and learning and development material to promote the revised ESG Framework strategy.
Conservation Science Internship

The Conservation Science Internship is available to students with an interest in raptor and bird conservation. Intern duties will include learning basic techniques in conservation science and education, monitoring wildlife and working with volunteers, visitors and school groups.
