The Student Attendance and Absence Events module allows teachers and administration staff to record student attendances and absence events to meet the requirements of:
their schools
their governing body e.g. MACS
the relevant government body (compliance requirements)
Attendance by students is normally marked by teachers in the Attendance window within Synweb. A student's non-attendance in class creates an absence event, called a slip. Note: any slips in a school's system MUST be cleared by the end of each day.
Absence events are:
used to track students arriving and leaving
used in eSIS to record when a student is absent or other absence- or attendance-related events are to be recorded
created to explain why a student is not marked as attending one or more classes or lessons (or the morning or afternoon roll call if this is done instead)
used to record planned absences by students
Absence events are categorised into the following types:
Absence Slips: used for unexplained absences. These will need to be updated in the system by superseding the slip with the appropriate absence event type once known. Note: This process must be completed for all slips each day
Late Sign In: records a student arriving late to school
Sign In/Sign Out: records a student signing in or out of school manually e.g. to attend a dentist's appointment
Expected In/Expected Out: used to record the date and time a student is expected to arrive at or leave school e.g. a parent rings to explain their child will attend a doctor's appointment the following day and is expected to arrive at 10:30am
Expected Out and In: records the date and times a student is expected to leave and return to school on the same day
All Day Absence: records a student's absence from school for a whole day e.g. a parent rings explaining that their child is sick and cannot attend school
Excursion Out and In: used to record the time a student will be leaving for and returning from an excursion, one student at a time (to record multiple students on excursion at the same time the Absentee Bulk Entry window would normally be used)
