When was the Ghettos


When were the ghettos? The first ghetto was created on April 10, 1516 in the country of Venice. But in 1797, the French army of Italy was commanded by a General named Napoleon Bonaparte. Bonaparte conquered Venice, Established the Venetian republic, and he ended the ghetto. These ghettos were made so the civilians of Germany could separate the Jews from their other communities. They citizens of Germany felt uncomfortable and unsafe with the jews walking the streets with them. These ghettos were broken down, destroyed parts of a city or town, and usually where nobody would go.



The First Ghetto, Venice

This was the first ghetto to ever be created. It held a little bit over 5,000 jews. It was quite small compared to the rest in the future, but thats because it was only the start.
