Conditions & Rules

Condition were really rough in the ghettos. Residents of the ghettos were so desperate they would smuggle goods in, such as weapons, food, and medicine. They would sneak the kids through crawl spaces on the outer walls where they wouldn't be seen.

In the ghettos, there were usually around 100,000 people. This meant around seven or eight to a single room. Soldiers would come every week to pick hundreds of jews to send away to death camps. In the first two months of the rise of the Nazis, over 5,000 were taken.

Even though the ghetto was their prison, it wasn't the worst part. You weren’t just thrown in and waited to be chosen for camps. They had rules they had to follow or pay the price with their life. First off, they had to wear a yellow star ,and hat on their head all the time to represent they're jewish. They were forbidden to purchase any amount of land, or anything involving something for themselves. This were also forbidden to have schooling of any type. But, they did have an underground system. Jews were not allowed to have any kind of worship either.

The jewish symbol

(Jewish Symble. This star represented the jewish religion.)

Jews were forced to wear this star on them to represent they were jewish. If a Nazi saw them without one they'd be punished. This does not go for every ghetto, but most.
