Joellynn Dwinal "Purple sunset"
Painting, 2025
My idea for this painting was to create a landscape from a photo I took. I took this photo in rock island at a campground me and my family were staying at.
My proccess for this artwork started with a canvas that I painted a pastel yellow. I painted the whole canvas with a wide brush. Then to make the sky a painted various colors onto the top part of the canvas, the I blended it by dabbing a paper towel onto the paint, it also created a nice texture. Then for the trees i used a fan brush and dark brown paint. For the water I used wet brushes to blend different colors of piant. Lastly, for the deck I used the end of a brush to create texture in the paint then In used different colors to make the lines.
To me this artwork symbolizes that you dont have to follow what your looking at, the colors in my painting look nothing like they did in the picture but I think it makes it look better.
It was most difficult for me to figure out how to blend the paint but I finally got the hang of it after a bunch of attempts.
This painting is unique to my personal style because of all the texture, I always try to create texture in my art. I love the way that the trees look and I also love how the sky and water turned out.
