My idea was to create a bowl with a fun design. I saw a picture on Pinterest of a ceramic bowl with a similar glaze pattern but different colors and I decided to try it. I cut a ball of clay and rolled it into a ball, then I got the wheel set up and I started to center my ball of clay on the wheel with my hands. Once the clay was centered I pushed my thumbs into the middle of the bowl to create a bowl shape. I used a sponge and my fingers to raise the edges. Once my bowl was made I stopped the wheel and carefully cut my bowl off with some wire. Once my bowl was fired I sanded the rough edges and ran it under water to get the dust off, After that I Grabbed 5 different colors of glaze and started to make triangle shapes with each color, I had to use one color twice. I added three coats of each layer and once that was done it went back into the kiln. I want people who are looking at it to think that the bowl is cute. It was most difficult for me to glaze the bowl because it took so many layers and it was hard to keep the lines straight, I overcame this by being patient and taking my time with it. This piece is non-objective because it focuses on the shapes and colors. I love this piece because its not simple but its not too much.
My idea for this bowl was to mix two different glazes that I have not used together before and see what happens. I mixed one of the new glazes with chum plum and it created a nice metallic color. To make this bowl I grabbed a ball of clay and centered it on the wheel, then I made the bowl and used the wire string to cut the bowl off. Then once it was fired I glazed it and fired it again. There is no symbolism in this project, I just wanted to try something new. It was most difficult to center the clay but I just had to be patient and eventually I got it. If I were to start over I would've made the bowl bigger. This is a non-objective piece that focuses on the metallic color. I like this peice a lot because I didnt think it was going to turn out as pretty as it did but if I were to re-do it I would for sure make a bigger bowl and add more of the chum plum so that it was more pink than green.
My Idea for this bowl was to create a soft texture but nothing too crazy. A lady came into class and showed us how to make these plant holders so that we would put some of the plants she brought for us inside of them. I grabbed a bowl and put plastic inside of it for lining, then I grabbed a ball of clay and took off small pieces. I pressed the small peiced around the bowl one by one until the bow was done. Once it was done I cleaned it up and let if dry for a few days. When it was out of the kiln I glazed it with the new June Bug glaze and put it in the kiln. After the kiln the lady came back and put a plant into it. To me the bowl kind of looks like a turtle shell, and I want my audience to think that it has good texture. It was most difficult for me to trust the process because I am used to making my clay smooth and I was not used to having texture in my projects. I just had to trust the process and I am glad that I did because I really liked how it turned out. This project is non-objective because the focus is more on the texture and the color of the bowl.
