Grant Gregoire “Wild Card"

12x8x15,Clay, Paint, 2023

So when I got my idea to make a wild card, I was scrolling through the internet looking for something to make for my bust. I found a picture of a character I thought I could use as a card as the mask. It shows how it could be someone who is part of a heist. The inspiration for this was a video game I used to play and it looks like the character. Also I got the idea from my friends also telling me what I should do and I agreed with them so they helped me with it.

The process started from just putting cans and tape and I put clay over it so it looked like shoulders and then I put on the neck and I had to smooth it. I used many different types of tools. I had to cut the tape and cans when I was done with putting on the clay. I had to take the top of the head out and cut it all out and then had to put the head back on so it wouldn’t burn when it was in the kiln. I found when putting the body together I had used water to help me smooth it out.

I want my audience to think when they see this bust that they think it is someone who is part of a casino heist or any heist because I gave him the all black body and then the gold mask. The gold mask shows that he likes stealing all the money at a bank and using it to help him hide himself. The most difficult part of doing this bust was getting the stuff out like the cans and tape because I could have destroyed all of my bust and the head could have collapsed when I was taking all the stuff out of the head. What I would change if I could would be taking more time on the inside so it wasn’t so hard, also I think I would glaze it instead of painting it. The bust I made was realistic because you make it look like a human and it looks like someone who is doing a heist and what it would wear.
