Grant Gregoire"Dawg"

18x11, Graphite on Paper, 2023

My first idea was to a dog like a golden retriever, but I noticed that it was a challenge so I was scrolling through ideas and I seen a bulldog I was like that's a perfect idea. So I had to think about what I wanted to so I found a picture of a bulldog laying down I thought that was going to be easier and I drew it out and it look really good. I thought it turned out good the colors I chose for and the blending tool with the skin color.  I thought changing from the golden retriever to the bulldog was the right thing to do because it went in the artshow.  The process took a long time so I drew a picture then I sketched it on to chalk paper and then I pulled it up on the white board and traced it onto the paper then I had to put thick lines on the dawg around it. Some other tools I used was the blending tools I blending around the areas I thought needed to be a lot darker and then I blended  the whole body of the dog to make the texture of the dog loom very realistic. This artwork means a lot to me because I like dogs and I don't know how people can't like dogs. We have 4 dogs 2 goldens I wish I would stuck with that project but it was way out of my range of art it was pretty tough but I found a bulldog. The reason I wanted to do it becasue my old travel ball coach would always say when I was pitching in a tough situation he would always say "go be a bulldog" that stuck with me because it means a lot Im trying my best to do for my team. The most difficult part of this piece of work was for sure was knowing where I should color the spots on the dog because I don't know where there patches should go on the dog and I had to make sure the dogs patches look realistic as possible. If I could restart I would choose a way different type of dog and it would be a golden retriever for sure.  The style of this artwork is realistic because it a real dog you could see if you took your dog to a dog park. The one thing I love about it is how it is a dog how can't people love dogs because when I go home and say I had bad day there always there happy when they see you which makes your day better.
