Painting I

Ella Klinkenberg "Rainbow Lady"

19x20, Paint, 2022

My idea at first was to create an abstract body that was pretty and had flowers coming out of the head but then i decided to do a rainbow body instead of making it like that. It evolved from what i first thought by having rainbow colors instead of being a monochrome piece. I got my inspiration from paintings I've seen online that show an abstract body with color and i thought they were cool so i wanted to make one of my own. My process was both short and lengthy process, my first step was to sketch out my design so i had an idea of what i wanted to put on my canvas. i had to paint my background and i chose the color black because i thought it would make the colors pop out more and i had to do 2 coats before i painted my shape and then 1 more after i painted just to clean up the shape. I also had to paint the sides of the canvas black too. Then i grabbed a white chalk pencil and sketched my drawing onto my canvas. I then started with a dark blue to start out then went to a lighter blue, green, yellow, orange, and then red. To get the thickness of lines and the opaqueness of the lines i had to do 2 coats. I used a darker purple on parts that needed to have a contour line like the elbow the back and the butt area, and on the under part of the left arm so you could tell the difference between the arm and the body. I used acrylic paints and brushes. The artwork has no special meaning it just was a piece of art that i thought would look good and pretty. When people look at my work i want them to think of natural beauty or just beauty but if they do not want to think that they are able to think of whatever they want to think about it. The most difficult thing for me was to figure out how i wanted the feet, arms, and hands at one point i cut off the arms altogether because i couldn't think of how i wanted the shape of them to be. Also trying to figure out the shades of each color i wanted was hard i wanted vibrant yet not super bright colors. I overcame the struggle of figuring out the shape of everything by asking for help from my teacher and i solved the shade problem by just trial and error and using criticism from my peers to make sure everything turned out well. What i would change if i could start over would probably be the color of the body one that may be more neutral or use different shades of one color. And i would add flowers coming out of the head to make it look beautiful. This art style is abstract, its unique to my style because i don't like to do basic paintings and i like to do something with bodies or outlines of bodies in past art i have done something with bodies. I love the shape of the body and how it turned out and how its just a relaxed shape
