Kinnicks Final Rest
My idea was an urn for my childhood dog named Kinnick and she loved fruit snacks like no other. Especially welch's so I thought I would make it look like the box of welchs. It evolved because i wanted to include some kind of hawkeye thing on the back as a tribute to her so i put that on there with her name and date. I first had to sketch out my idea of how I wanted my piece to look like on both sides. i rolled out several pieces of clay and used the roller to do it. my pieces of clay all had to be the same height, the base had to be a tad bigger so i would be able to fit all the walls on it. i printed out a picture of the welchs box front and used a needle tool to trace out every detail of the front as i can. I did not include the detail on the fruit though. i then printed out the hawkeye symbol for the back and traced that. for the letters on the back i used these rice letters and pushed them in to make a deep enough impression. once all the details and lines were etched on it went in the kiln for the first fire. i had to sand it out to make it smooth and that there were no sharp parts. i then used about 8 differnent glasses for the whole piece the front used alot of different glzes. then it got fired in the kiln. the artwork to me is a way for me to finally be able to put kinnick to rest. When people look at this i want them to think of fruit snacks but also be able to realize the depth and what this means to me and my family. the most difficult thing was the amount of detail and time it took for me to glaze the front. i just was paitent and took my time so it would look. what i would change if i could start over is have more vibrant glazes and more colors that matched. this is a realistic piece of work and it is unique to my style because i always make something that deals with my family or means something to my fmaily. i love the back of it where its the tribbute to kinnick.Â
