Decide what is most important to you in a college experience, along with your long-term goals and how college will play a part in achieving those goals. By visiting college websites, talking with current and former students and reading online reviews, try to learn as much as possible about your potential school!
This varies between all students! Use the selectivity chart to create your list of Reach, Target, and Safety schools! These numbers are based on scores and GPA of the middle 50% of admitted students. This means that 25% of admitted students fall below the listed grades and scores, and 25% of admitted students fall above the listed grades and scores. It is not guaranteed that you will be admitted or denied, however, just because your scores and grades are in, above, or below the given range. A variety of factors go into the admissions decision, which is why we recommend applying to a few schools in each category.
Your GPA and SAT/ACT scores fall just below the given range, but are still competitive. A school where you really think your acceptance might be a stretch but still want to go for it! Three schools that are almost always reach schools (varies by student) are Ivy league schools, University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, Washington & Lee, William & Mary, UNC Chapel Hill, and Duke (among others).
Your GPA and SAT/ACT scores fall within the given range! This is a school where you are confident about your acceptance and if you get in, you would want to go!
Your GPA and SAT/ACT scores fall above the given range! You are pretty confident about your acceptance
Check out the selectivity charts in the EVHS Senior Guidebook pages 12-13 and then use the 2020-21 deadlines to track your applications!
