World war 1 night was the project I took the artifact from and it was my groups photo essay. We had a whole night to show off different things that were part of, contributed, or were the effects of world war one. Our photo essay was on shell shock. This was in 9th grade and it was a group project. This connected to the real world because soldiers suffered from shell shock o now known as PTSD after the war. We answered the driving question Why does World War Matter today. We created a photo essay on shell shock. We found pictures of soldiers that had been mentally disturbed and scarred by the war. These people were all suffering from shell shock and could even affect how they thought and move. Some people couldn’t walk right or would constantly shake from traumatizing events they had witnessed. It was a pretty big project and our guidelines were to create a photo essay showing a part of WW1 in our case it was shell shock. We went on many different websites and found pictures and videos of the event and showed the happy intro to the war with happy music and changed it as the war progressed and the reality war started occurring to the men. I had no experiences in photo essays so it was new and exciting but I knew how to input the music in the series of pictures so it could tell the story better. We were graded on collaboration and knowledge and thinking. WE recieved a 96/100 on our knowlege and thinking. This project/artifact taught me editing skills, history about shell shock in WW1, and how to make a photo essay. This artifact let me use collaboration with my teammates, knowledge and thinking, by learning and showing what we learned about shell shock by gathering pictures and videos, as well as Agency by getting everything done by the deadline. I grew by gaining knowledge about how to make a photo essay and use editing skills to put all the pictures together with music in the background as well as timing each picture and adding transitions. Some of my successes with this project were overcoming issues with adding music and music transitions and some mistakes were the mp4 files originally couldn’t download causing the video for the music to play over our pictures(this was fixed) I chose to use this artifact to reflect on because I put in hard work and learned new skills that can help me when doing any visual related things such as making a video or a better presentation for school because I have expanded my skills from this project.
The project that included my artifact was my freshman CSI project. My artifact was the R and C trailer portion of this Project. This was very connected to the real world because we had io use real world skills such as scheduling out time after school to film and getting everyone to be there as well as request to use the library conference room and have parents drive cars for a car chase scene. I also learned many editing skills that could help me in the future if I pursue in career related to videography. This was a team based project and required a lot of collaboration skills in order to make the whole process effective and get a good end result. The driving question for this project was “How do we create an interesting and engaging video trailer that documents our CSI investigation?” For my artifact, we created a movie trailer that was based of our biology part of the project where we were investigating a crime scene. We made this very entertaining by making the music in direct correlation to what was happening in the trailer as well as filming at various different angles by cutting and resuming the scene to constantly get a new perspective. Our most noteworthy part of our trailer was the car chase scene where we made it look like our teammates were in a car chase with each other by cutting and shooting at different angles. We provided smooth transitions so you could not even tell that they were not actually chasing each other. Our theme was a more dramatic action that had no dialogue but told the story through the characters actions and the music. This was a big assignment that was one of the most exciting and enjoyable out of the whole year and I got to experience this projects with a friend who was also in drama with me so the idea of acting and making a trailer really attracted both of us to this project. The project guidelines were to create a movie trailer related the the direlights crime that we were solving in biology. All the groups made their own interpretations of the crime and told their stories out in many interesting and unique ways. I had a great experience with this project and it helped me learn a lot as well as being very enjoyable at the same time. This Particular artifact was scored on Agency, collaboration, knowledge and thinking, and oral communication. Our group revived an A/A+ in each of these categories for an overall A on the projects. This artifact taught me editing skills, collaboration skills, time management skills, and more. I demonstrated the Use of our SWLO’s /21st century skills byby communicating and collaborating with all team members, staying after school to improve our trailer and make it maximum quality as well as time management skills and scheduling because we had to make sure we stayed at a good pae so we could be finished on time as well as be able to film in the required locations at the times we needed. I grew in time management and collaboration and communication skills as well as my ability to edit things and use cameras to film at different angles and various things like that. Successes were the editing payed off and one us an award and got us a good grade, but a mistake would be not having the trailer put together for peer evaluation as a rough draft before we submitted it as a final draft. I chose this artifact to reflect on my learning because I think the group I ad had the best communication and collaborations skills out of all my groups and were always focused on getting what we needed to get done so we could successfully accomplish making a quality trailer.
