Whatukura investigated the "Stolen Generations" of the Aboriginal people and the Dawn Raids in New Zealand. This provided our class with two poignant moments in history.
We learnt that the Stolen Generations was a period where Aboriginal children were taken from their families through government policies and often given away or sent to live in camps and used as workers.
This happened from 1800s to the 1970's. We watched Rabbit Proof Fence and learnt about Molly, Gracie & Daisy and their story. As a result Miss Wilkinson and Miss Rennie found a book called "Missing Voices" where there was a huge range of photos of Aboriginal People throughout history. The voices of the Aborogine people is still been strangled today and we hope this changes in the future.
Their portraits are below and then we completed a Google Drawing. The 2 Voice poem tells the story of ourselves living in 2022 and what it would be like for an aboriginal child back in time.
