We investigated the concepts of perspective and bias. We watched Hidden Figures which is a movie about Coloured women who worked for NASA and the struggles they faced due to large inequalities. Everyone then chose a person in history they thought was a 'hidden figure' and deserved more recognition. We recorded 'Two Voice' poems to show some of the similarities and differences between our chosen person and someone else.
Sherpa Tenzing By Tyler, Rory, & Tyler, & Tua
My Missing Voices Poem explanation
We chose to do Sherpa Tenzing for our two voice poem/inquiry project based on perspectives. He is a hidden voice because he helped Sir Edmund Hillary get up Mt Everest. Edmund got a statue but Sherpa got no recognition. The other person I did in our poem was the perspective of Sir Edmund.

Irena Sendler by Thomas & Ben
We picked Irena sendler for our two voice poem and our portrait because we thought that it is important for people to know how brave she was during world war 2 saving about 2500 children. In our two voice poem we chose a Nazi soldier to be her opposite. We also think because not many people know about what she did they would be amazed with her effort saving so many children. We think that everyone should look up to her and get the chance to learn about her and her past life as a child.

Mary Jackson by Mikayla
My Hidden Figures Poem Explanation
I chose to do Mary Jackson for my 2-voice poem. Since she is a hidden figure who worked at NASA. Sadly, she didn’t get as much recognition as the white males did. Mary J didn’t have what the others had, for example, a telephone, a toilet, and a black coffee cup instead of a white one, not having her name on paperwork, and getting paid a lot less than a white man would. For my second perspective I chose a white man who had much more recognition than Mary. Although they both worked at NASA and were both intelligent, they both got treated very differently. The man got paid more, got to have his name on paperwork, his toilet was close-by, had a white coffee cup (just like everyone else did except Mary), and got treated a lot better. I am proud of what I have achieved and I hope more hidden voices around the world get the recognition they deserve.

Mary Maker by Terangi
Mary Maker works in a studio because she likes to share a lot of stuff. I chose her because she sounds interesting but she likes to help children and take care of them because they were in a war so she wanted to save the kids. Mary Maker likes to share her thoughts and how she saved the children that were in the war. People loved what she did, like working for a company so that's why I love Mary maker because she is a very smart and helpful person.
