Before running a job on the Laguna, all tools (standard tools in tool holders 1 thru 6 and special tools in holders 7 and 8) must be touched off to ensure proper offsets are entered into the machine. This step is critical to achieve desired cut depth and prevent cutting into the spoil board.
To zero tools in the tool holder:
Go to the [MAIN] screen by clicking the label on the right side of the screen.
Click the [AUTO TOOL] button so that it turns gray.
Enter the MDI mode by clicking [MDI] button located along the top of the screen .
MDI stands for Manual Data Input, it is the preferred way to enter simple g-code, which is very useful in tool changing.
Verify that the tool number actually in the spindle matches the tool number on the Syntec controller.
In MDI mode, click [Monitor] (F4) then click [MDI Input] (F3) along the bottom row
In the MDI pop-up window, type in the list of tools to be used in the program, i.e:
T6
T7
T8
Note: this is case-sensitive and the procedure will be faster if you start with the tool already loaded in the spindle.
Click [OK] (F1) to load the program into the machine.
Hit [Cycle Start] along the bottom row of the screen. The machine will now automatically load each tool and use the TTO pad to set the correct offsets.
Keep your hand near the e-stop AT ALL TIMES during the tool touch off process. If you see the machine about to crash into the ATC or jams itself while traversing downward towards the TTO, hit the e-stop immediately and contact staff members.
Once the process completes, go back to MAIN and turn off [AUTO TOOL] by clicking the button (the button should be white after you click it).
