Me and my cousin surfing in Hawaii- Moms Photos
Ever since growing up I have always been in the water if it was swimming since 4 or surfing in santa cruz. I always loved being in the sun and in the water, especially at the beach. Growing up I would always be at my uncle's house in Santa Cruz right by the beach which I would say led me to my surfing addiction. Surfing had become such a big part of my life that even when we would go to Hawaii we would have to bring our surfboards to surf the amazing waves in Kauai. Watching the waves crash down on the beach and seeing the amazing animals I would see while surfing really calmed me and brought me to a state of peace. The amazing art of surfing has just been around for a little while. It has been here forever and a lot of cool facts that might surprise you.
Different Kinds of Boards
The good thing about this board is that it is low price meaning a lot of people can ride it and afford it. Does not take a lot of time to keep it in good shape and does not need wax. If you are riding the wave and wipe out it does not hurt. The cons about this board is since it is cheap then the board will fall apart in a few years.
It is very friendly to the environment and if you take care of this board then you should not have to buy a new board for a very long time. They are heavier than foam boards so it is easier to ride waves and have momentum. The cons are they are harder to maneuver around and cost more money.
This board is not expensive and if it breaks it is easy to repair. Very good to surf in choppy waves because it is heavier. Although it is easier to fix it is also easy to damage so this is a con for this board .
The surfboard was released to the public traced all the way back to 3000 B.C. But this “surfboard” was not intended to ride waves but used to catch fish and use more as a boat. But the fishers caught themself riding the waves into shore on this board and this is how the spark of surfboards came to be.
1900-1920 surfing had arrived and even when it first arrived it came with compititon. The surf boards were made with leftover redwood transported by the mainlands for construction. George Freeth was spreading surfing from Hawaii to the U.S and is famous for cutting his 16 foot board in half.
1930 - Tom Blake created the first hollow surfboard and this became very popular and was selling with a lot of companies. John Kelly and Fran Heath took the next big step with cutting off some of the board for the ridings to have more control while surfing. This was called the hot curl.
1940 - Because of WW2 people had more materials to use when making the surfboard. Pete Petrson was really the first person to put these materials to work. He made the first hollow plastic surfboard.
1980- 1990 - A redesign of the twin fin was designed and released. Laird Hamilton was doing some work to the towing boards making them shorter and heavier. Surfboard manufacturer made it able to have foamed boards in precise shaping.
2000 - A larger foam board factory shut down and the prices on other markers grew because of this. More material is being put into factories like wood because of the new advances in society. As the surfboard disgns are expanding so are the surfers. More and more people are becoming interested and surfing is becoming a world wide sport.
The leash is at the end of the board and attaches to the riders ankle so if you fall the board wont go so far away from the rider
Rails
The rails are on the side of the boards, they can look different depending on what board you get. Soft boards have more rounded rails while hard tops boards have more square rails.
The tail is located in the back of the board and it helps with the cutting in the wave and the speed you want to ride at
The nose of your board is the very front of it and it can be rounded or have a sharp tip. Depends on how the rider likes it and how this just affects how the rider can paddle.
Fins are located on the back of the board underneath. It helps with the control of the board. It doesn't just have to be one fin but it can be many just depending on how you want to ride.
