The University of California and California University State systems do not require the SAT or ACT for admissions.  Private and Out of State colleges may require an entrance exam(s) so please research individually to ensure you have met all admission requirements.

Carlsbad High School does not automatically register students for PSAT, AP, SAT, or ACT exams. Because these testing organizations require individual profiles, digital photo uploads, and direct fee payments, students and families must manage the registration process independently.

Please review the steps below to ensure you/your student do not miss testing windows or deadlines.

PSAT Exam

AP (Advanced Placement) Exams

• Deadline: Mid-October (Late fees apply after this date).

• Click on the registration link above, follow steps. Consult with your AP teacher for more information related to class join codes.

SAT Exam

• Where to Register: College Board Official Site

• What You Need: A clear digital photo, form of payment, and a legal ID.

• Important Note: Registration names must match the student’s government or school photo ID exactly.

• Testing Requirement: The SAT is now fully digital. Students must download the Bluebook App onto an approved testing device before test day.

ACT Exam

• Where to Register: Official ACT Site

• What You Need: A MyACT account, student background details, and form of payment.

• Optional: Decide during registration if you want to take the optional Writing section. It is recommended that students research exam requirements at colleges they plan to apply to regarding the Writing section.

Fee Waivers & Accommodations

• Financial Aid: If you qualify for free or reduced lunch, please provide a copy of your free/reduced lunch letter to your school counselor with ample time before the registration deadline to obtain a fee waiver. Many local testing centers fill up quickly so it's important to register early.

• Accommodations: If you/your student has an IEP or 504 plan, testing accommodations must be submitted and approved by the College Board and/or ACT many weeks in advance. Do not wait until the registration deadline.

Please double-check all national testing dates and register early, as local testing centers fill up quickly. Carlsbad High School and Sage Creek High School are not testing centers for SAT or ACT exams.
