CUSD Summer School
High School Credit Recovery 2026
Carlsbad Unified School District will offer Summer School for credit recovery for CUSD high school students who have earned any “F” or “D” grades. Please note, Summer School is not for advancement or getting ahead. It is an opportunity for students to earn credit recovery to replace “D” and “F” grades earned during the school year. Recovery of credits helps students get back on track for high school graduation and college admissions.
CUSD Summer School will be offered in person only at Sage Creek High School. Students will attend 3–4 days per week: schedule below. Summer School courses will primarily use APEX self-paced online curriculum, which allows students to access the coursework in a mastery model based on the need to remediate skills and knowledge on specific course standards. Algebra 1A, Algebra 1B, English 1A, and English 1B will be offered only as an in-person, instructional model and taught by a CUSD credentialed teacher. (not APEX).
Class times:
8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (APEX courses)
8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. (Non-APEX courses)
Format:
Summer school will be offered in two sessions. Students may attend one session or both sessions. Students are expected to complete a minimum of one semester course per session, but could potentially complete more. Students can take semester courses in either session regardless of the semesters they need to make up. (Ex: A second semester course can be taken in the 1st session or 2nd session of summer school). On the Summer School registration form, first semester courses are labeled with a letter “A” and second semester courses are labeled with a “B”.
Registration Details and Attendance:
Summer school offerings are dependent on course requests, staffing, availability of sections, and graduation status. Students must be in attendance on their assigned first day of summer school. Students may not miss more than two days of summer school to get credit for non-Apex courses.
Parents are encouraged to review their child's transcript to check for any D’s or F’s to see if summer school is needed. To check Aeries transcripts: Login to Aeries Parent Portal - Select Grades tab - Select Transcripts in drop-down - Review for any D/F grades.
