Adding Content to Your Site

Adding Content to Your Site

When you have created your structure as completely as you can, you are ready to start adding the content that will make your site useful. Choosing the content you are going to use is not always as easy as it might seem. It is not about linking to other people's sites or documents since they control its availability. There is nothing worse than finding a great video, linking your site to it and then finding out that it was taken don by those who control it.

As much as possible, create your own material and include that on your site. You may have to start by using others' work, be sure to give credit where it is due. But, as you see what works and what doesn't work, create your own material to replace it. When you use videos, be sure to check them often to be sure they are still functioning.

If your goal is to get documents to your students using the Google apps is probably your most effective bet. Anything you create in a Google app can be shared from your website. If you use the sharing link from your Google Drive you can allow others to view and copy the documents. It is also a great way to warehouse your documents in units or time periods for yourself. One of the nicest aspects of linking to your Google Drive is that each time you update the document, those using the link to access the document will always see the most up-to-date version.
