Techcafe' PD Mission
Carbon School District has made a large investment in educational technology available for use by educators and students. Every 3rd -12th grade student has access to 1:1 Chromebooks for use in school. Chromebook carts give lower grades regular access as well. Many elementary classrooms have I-Pads available for student use. Almost every classroom in the district has a SmartBoard and rooms without SmartBoards have mounted projectors. The list goes on and on. This Ed. Tech. is intended to elevate student learning and performance.
Professional development for educators who teach with this technology is imperative if the results we desire from our investment are to be achieved.
Professional Development in the field of Educational Technology is available for individual staff members and school faculty groups.
Techcafe'
The Techcafe' is an open ended, "get help as you need it", opportunity. It is scheduled during non-contract time in the training lab at the District Technology Center (DTC). Any CSD staff member desiring to "upgrade" themselves in any area of Ed. Tech. can drop in anytime during scheduled times and get help and training. Often, a specific topic will be addressed by one of the trainers, but as needed help will always be available. Relicensure points are available for appropriate time and topics.
Some examples of using the Techcafe' for drop in training are:
- How do I use Google Drive effectively?
- How do I implement mastery grading though Aspire SIS?
- How do I convert my Word docs into Google docs?
- How do I create and deliver units and grade in Google Classroom or Canvas?
- How do I record my direct teaching and put the video on my website?
Examples of scheduled instruction are:
- Formative Assessment in the classroom
- Using School City
- Managing student engagement with Hapara
- Nearpod presentations and student engagement

Individualized Training
Individualized training that cannot be delivered adequately through the TechCafe can be scheduled for a one on one setting. This training can be done at the training center or in a specific classroom or office. To schedule individualized training, contact the trainers though techcafe@carbonschools.org.
Group Training or Techcafe' Catering
Group specific training that cannot be delivered adequately through the Techcafe' can be scheduled in a variety of settings. This type of training can be done at the training center, in a school or in department or grade level meetings.
